The parents in Myanmar consider naming their children according to the alphabet’s of the birth date. Usually, an astrologer or a monk is consulted before the naming is done. The horoscope of most people in Myanmar is imprinted on a palm leaf. This piece of treasured information is called ‘Zar Tar’. Since Myanmar people believe in the astrology and its movements affecting the lives of the people, the leaves have the exact description of the person’s name and time of birth.
Every weekday is represented by a by a planet, an animal symbol and the alphabetical letters. The alphabets are separate for every weekday thus making the process more unique. The week in Myanmar is of 8 days. This is so because the Wednesday is further divided into 2 halves. According to the Myanmar astrology, the morning half is called Wednesday and the evening half is referred to as ‘Yarhu’. That is why in Pagodas, we see eight posts/corners representing eight planets. Further, these planetary posts are derived from Hinduism and not from Buddhism, as they are thought to be. Every planetary post/corner has its own symbolic animal and period attached to it.

If a person is born on a Sunday, his name will begin with the letter ‘A’ or ‘E’. The symbolic symbol will be ‘Garuda Bird’ and the symbolic planet will be Sun.
For a person born on Monday will be named with the letter of ‘Ka, Kha, Ga and Nga’. For this the symbols are Tiger and Moon.
A Tuesday-born is named with letters ‘Sa, Saa, Za, Zha, Nya’. The symbolas are Lion and Mars planet.
Wednesday is different. If a person is born in the morning he will be given a name starting from letters ‘La, Wa’. The symbols will be Elephant (with tusk) and planet will be Mercury. If a person is born on Wednesday evening he will be named with letters ‘Ya, Ra’ and the symbol will be an Elephant (without tusk).
The person born on a Thursday is named with the letters ‘Pa, Pha, Ba, Bha and Ma’ and the symbols will be Rat and Jupiter planet.
A Friday-born person is named with the letters “Tha, Ha“. The symbols will be a Guinea pig and Venus planet.
The person born on Saturday will be given a name beginning with the letter ‘Ta, Hta, Da, Dha, Na’. The symbols will be Dragon and Satan planet.
A typical Myanmar name consists of two or three variables. The system makes it easy to guess the day a person is born and further astrology can tell about the nature of the person. Isn’t it amazing?
