Myanmar Nainggan or the Union of Myanmar also known as Burma.

Historically, Myanmar has a history as long as 2000 years. Myanmar people are of the Tibet- Myanmar stock and originally came from the Central Asia Table Land.
The first group of Pyu people, who were said to be ancestors  of Myanmar people came to settle here in 4 th to 9 th Century A D . Their language belonged to the Tibetan-Myanmar family.

myanmar burmaIn the 11th Century AD, the first Myanmar Empire or the Bagan Dynasty was founded under the powerful king Anawratha   (1044-1077 AD). He was the one who introduced Theravada Buddhism into Myanmar from the Mon people.

The second dynasty of Taungoo was established by the powerful king and general Bayinnaung (1551- 1581AD) in the 16th Century AD, by reunifying all the small and disintegrated states in the country.

The third or the last dynasty of Konbaung was founded by king Alaungpaya (1752- 1760AD) in the 18 th Century.

Myanmar lost her independence under the British colonialists in 1885. Struggles for independence followed for the next 60 years. During the Second World War from 1942 to 1945 a brief Myanmar Civil administration appeared under the Japanese militarists.

Finally, it regained her independence and sovereignty in January of 1948.

Myanmar Nainggan is a union comprising many national races living together inside the country.

According to the official records, it has 135 ethnic groups speaking over 100 languages and dialects. It is a most wonderful fact about this country.

The major races are the Bamars, the Shans, the Kayins, the Kachins, the Chins, the Rakhines, the Kayahs and the Mons. The largest group is the Bamar, comprising about 70% of the population, followed by the Shans 8.5%, and the Kayins 6.2%.

The total population has reached about 52 millions in 2001 and the population growth is 1.84 percent per year. The population density is 188 per square mile.

Myanmar is divided into seven states and seven divisions. The divisional areas which are the plains and the delta region of the country are populated mostly by the Bamars and the state which is the mountainous border areas are lived by various national races.

As regards religion, we have the freedom of worship in Myanmar Nainggan. About 85% of the population are the Buddhist, 4.9% the Christians, 4% the Islam and the Hindus. We even have a synagogue for the Jews in Yangon.

Myanmar is often referred to as the Land of Golden Pagodas. Among the pagodas, the most famous one is the Shwdedagon Pagoda in Yangon, it’s also called the Landmark of Myanmar.

Agriculture is the main business of the state employing about 70% of the population. The main crop is paddy which is grown twice a year. The other major crops are corn, coffee, various kinds of beans and sesame.

Myanmar is a union of all the different Myanmar Nationalities living together in his land. Myanmar also known as Burma is situated between longitudes of about 90 to 100 – East, we are six and a half hours ahead of GMT.

Geographically, Myanmar is situated in the western part of South East Asia. To the east, we have China, Laos and Thailand, and to the west we meet the borders of India and Bangladesh.

Myanmar has an area of 261228 square miles or about 68000 square kilometers. It is the largest mainland country in Southeast Asia.

When we look at the physical features of Myanmar, we find that it has three main mountain ranges, the Western Yoma, the BagoYoma and the Eastern Shan Plateau.

In the far north, we have snow – capped mountains which are the extensions of the Himalayas. Among them, Mount Hkakaborazi, with a height of 5881 meters, is the highest peak in South East Asia.

Myanmar has four main rivers running through the country from north to south, namely, the Ayeyarwaddy, the Chindwin, the Sittaung and the Thanlwin. The longest and the most important is the Ayewaddy (Irrewaddy). With a total length of 2090 kilometers, it starts and ends inside the boundary of Myanmar Nainggan.

Near the mouth of the river, there is a big remarkable area called the Ayeyarwaddy Delta. With an area of 31000 square kilometers, it is a very fertile rich land and an ideal place for agriculture, known as “the Rice Bowl of Myanmar “.

It also has a long sea coastline to the west, facing the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea. So it has beautiful beaches and is rich in marine biodiversity.

As for the climate, we have 3 seasons in a year, the hot Season, the Rainy Season and the Cold Season. The hot season starts from March to May, with an average temperature of 30 to 35 C . We get the South West Monsoon Winds from the India Ocean during the rainy season and temperature being 25 to 30. C.  The cold season starts from October to February, the average temperature being 20 to 24.C. April and January are the hottest and the coldest month in a year. As we have a lot of rain in Myanmar, about 50% of the land area is covered with natural forests and Greenland.

Yangon is the former capital of Myanmar with a population of over 5 million. The official Language is the Myanmar Language which is understood by 90% of the population. English is also widely understood in the major cities, hotels and restaurants.

Myanmar is famous for its rich natural resources like teak, precious stones and natural gas. It is also the golden land with glittering pagodas, rich archaeological sites, a wealth of culture, and colorful festivals through out the year. It is also blessed with breath taking scenic natural beauty, snow-capped mountains, rivers, beautiful beaches, pristine forests, exotic flowers and plants.
