A smile is one human emotion that is universal and is bound to change any situation. Smile represents happiness, love and emotions all in a few seconds. Smile coupled with eccentric eyes can display the best of joy. But the heartfelt genuine smile is hard to produce because it requires real emotions and feelings.
These real emotions are missing in today’s highly industrialized world. Myanmar being a developing country might have fewer infrastructures but it certainly scores great in terms of real smile. Just walk into any street or alley and you’ll notice genuine smiles pouring all over. This is because people here are not in a hurry or eager to win a race. The pace of their life is gentle and nimble. This does not mean that they work slowly. It’s just that people here know the worth of content and joy that a smile can bring. They know that content and smiles should be given priority.
Another factor which contributes to the magnificent Myanmar smile is the facial expression. The Asian facial characteristics bring a whole new meaning to the smile. Burmese people being ethnically diverse have people from various races. These races may be Bamar, Shan, Kayin, Chin, Kachin, Kayah, Mon and Rakhine. And then there is the geographical diversity which ranges from Kaw Thaung to Putao and from Shan to Mrauk U. This leads to the diverse facial features each sporting a unique and marvelous smile.
The people have numerous traditions which link them with history and culture. The number of festivals and religious ceremonies celebrated in Myanmar are countless. Almost every month has some major traditional festival. From the Htamane festival in January to the Kayin New Year in December, people never miss an opportunity to celebrate. In these festivals, genuine smiles are a plenty. The pagoda festivals such as Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival, Maha Myat Muni Pagoda Festival (Mandalay) and Festival of Kaung Hmudaw (Sagaing) are over and above the regular festivals.
Smile is also linked to the memorable experiences of Burmese life. These may be common to a large group of people. When a Burmese woman applies Thanakha on their faces, the joy can be seen in the eyes. Similarly, when Burmese parents organize the Novitiation ceremony of their boy, there happiness drips from their faces. These traditions keep the spark glowing in this developing Myanmar.
Studies suggest that smiling is crucial to health and business. Can’t say, but may be this is the reason why business is working in Myanmar. All in all, you can’t disagree that real smile is a magical potion. When you exchange a smile, you know that an interesting conversation is about to begin. This mutual feeling is only multiplied in Myanmar. Visit this land to know the difference.
