If you are a very new visitor to Yangon, chances are that on the very first night, you’ll go to the club. Nightlife of any city defines the vibrant youth culture and the hot spots of the city. As with any other Asian city, Yangon (former Myanmar capital) too has its fair share of nightlife. Though, it is not as over-the-top as the ones in the western world but it is pretty good. So, let’s take a peep into the nightlife of Myanmar.

In Yangon, there are organized evenings, for tourists, where one can witness folk-dances and costumes from ethnic minorities.

Mr. Guitar café is also a nice night spot. It is located in Sayasan Street, Bahan Township. The place offers decent drink and plays live music (mostly rock) till late. You can also enjoy karaoke style music and participate in it. Both locals and expats frequent this place. Remember; do not take any cameras along with you as most bars prohibit photography inside due to the privacy.

Open air eating is famous in Myanmar, especially in Yangon. Chinatown is famous for this and there are many places near Sule Pagoda on Mahabandaloo Street. There are numerous shops here which offer barbeques and you can enjoy the drink in open atmosphere. Shwe Khaing is a place which offers great food especially the grilled items. The shop is famous for seafood cuisine.

The traditional Myanmar delicacy, called Moh Hin Gar- a fish and lemongrass soup, can be had the famous place called Lan Sone in the Tha Mine township (You can ask directions through comments). They serve great Moh Hin Gar (traditional Myanmar rice noodles) and is famous among locals who are late after work. The shop is in a house and is almost always filled with people. The shop opens around 10AM until its finish the soup.

If you are looking for a natural retreat, then head to Kandawgyi Garden. It is a popular recreation centre in Yangon and is spread over 260 acres. There are a variety of shady tree, beautiful flower gardens, water areas and play grounds. You can also buy souvenirs or eat at the inbuilt restaurants. The place should be visited in the evening and then head to your favorite pub or club.

If confused in Yangon, just take a taxi and say “Kandawgyi”. So, head out in the evening without any fear. Yangon is one of the safest places in Myanmar.
